Fmoc Protected Amino Acids are amino acids where the amino group is protected by a 9-fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl (Fmoc) group, commonly used in solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS). The Fmoc group provides stability to the amino acid during synthesis and is easily removed under basic conditions, typically with piperidine, to expose the free amine for subsequent coupling with other amino acids or modifications. Fmoc-protected amino acids are widely used in peptide synthesis, allowing for precise control over peptide sequence assembly and enabling further functionalization, such as the attachment of PEG chains for enhanced solubility, stability, or targeted delivery in therapeutic applications.
