<p><em>Sambucus nigra</em> lectin, isolated from elderberry bark, binds preferentially to sialic acid attached to terminal galactose in α-2,6 and to a lesser degree, α-2,3 linkage. Binding is also inhibited to some extent by lactose or galactose. This lectin appears to bind sialic acid linked to <em>N</em>-acetylgalactosamine or galactose. SNA has been reported to inhibit cell-free protein synthesis.</p>
<p>Cy5 labeled <em>Sambucus nigra</em> lectin has an appropriate number of fluorochromes bound to provide the optimum staining characteristics for this lectin. This conjugate is supplied essentially free of unconjugated fluorochromes.</p>

<p><em>Sambucus nigra</em> lectin, isolated from elderberry bark, binds preferentially to sialic acid attached to terminal galactose in α-2,6 and to a lesser degree, α-2,3 linkage. Binding is also inhibited to some extent by lactose or galactose. This lectin appears to bind sialic acid linked to <em>N</em>-acetylgalactosamine or galactose. SNA has been reported to inhibit cell-free protein synthesis.</p>

<p><em>Sambucus nigra</em> lectin, isolated from elderberry bark, binds preferentially to sialic acid attached to terminal galactose in α-2,6 and to a lesser degree, α-2,3 linkage. Binding is also inhibited to some extent by lactose or galactose. This lectin appears to bind sialic acid linked to <em>N</em>-acetylgalactosamine or galactose. SNA has been reported to inhibit cell-free protein synthesis.</p>
<p>Fluorescein labeled <em>Sambucus nigra</em> lectin has an appropriate number of fluorochromes bound to provide the optimum staining characteristics for this lectin. This conjugate is supplied essentially free of unconjugated fluorochromes. The excitation maximum is at 495 nm and the emission maximum is at 515 nm.</p>

				        <h3>Description</h3><p><em>Sambucus nigra</em> lectin, isolated from elderberry bark, binds preferentially to sialic acid attached to terminal galactose in α-2,6 and to a lesser degree, α-2,3 linkage. Binding is also inhibited to some extent by lactose or galactose. This lectin appears to bind sialic acid linked to <em>N</em>-acetylgalactosamine or galactose. SNA has been reported to inhibit cell-free protein synthesis.</p><p>Biotinylated <em>Sambucus nigra</em> lectin has an appropriate number of biotins bound to provide the optimum staining characteristics for this lectin. This conjugate is supplied essentially free of unconjugated biotins and is preserved with sodium azide.</p><p>Please note that SNL and SNA are equivalent. <p>Although the specificity of this lectin is not well defined, MAL II appears to bind only particular carbohydrate structures that contain sialic acid. Unlike Sambucus nigra lectin (SNA) which seems to prefer structures with (α-2,6) linked sialic acid, MAL II appears to bind sialic acid in an (α-2,3) linkage.
