Description

PHOTOPROBE Biotin Kit enables simple and rapid labeling of nucleic acids with biotin. Labeling is based on aryl azide chemistry that when exposed to defined heat or light, becomes activated and is incorporated into the nucleic acid. The labeling reaction is not base specific and labels are incorporated at multiple sites along the entire length of the nucleic acid that does not destroy the original nucleic acid or create a copy. The reaction is performed using either a halogen lamp, heating block or thermal cycler. Single or double stranded DNA, circular DNA, RNA, siRNA, or PNA can be labeled.

PHOTOPROBE Biotin Kit has an extra long spacer arm that increases distance between the sample and the biotin tag to avoid potential issues with subsequent detection or capture that can occur when using shorter spacer arms. This kit contains sufficient reagent to label up to 250 ug of nucleic acid which equates to about 50 reactions.

Kit Components

Description

Biotin (Long Arm) Maleimide is designed for biotinylating proteins, nucleic acids or other molecules containing one or more thiol groups. The presence of the 6-aminohexanoate spacer arm between the maleimide group and biotin reduces the possibility of steric hinderance. Molecules to be labeled with Biotin (Long Arm) Maleimide require free thiol groups. In the case of proteins, Biotin (Long Arm) Maleimide will react with exposed cysteine residues. Alternatively, free thiols may be generated by reducing disulfide bonds or by modifying other reactive groups such as primary amines with compounds like Traut’s reagent (2-iminothiolane).
