This image captures the beauty of the dermal elastic fibre network in healthy, yet aged, sun-protected skin. This section of buttock skin was double immunostained for mature elastin (green) and fibrillin-rich microfibrils (red) and counterstained with DAPI (blue). The architecture of the elastic fibre network is essential for the maintenance of skin elasticity; perturbations to this precise arrangement readily leads to skin laxity.
